The history of Grundsund is mostly one of fishing.
The village was for a long time an important fishing and boating village. The good herring period in the 18th century contributed to the successful development of the village and when similar fishing villages in the late 19th century turned into spa areas for the society, Grundsund remained the fishing village. During the First World War, the channel that divides the village into the east side and the west side was dugout, to make shelter for the fishing boats.
Today, fishing is still important in the village of Grundsund, but many visitors also come in the summer to paddle kayak, rent bikes, play golf and tennis or take lovely walks in the area. In Grundsund, you will find the local grocery store, ICA, a fish shop, restaurants, clothes shops, hairdresser and massage- all within walking distance!
For the golfer there is two golf courses, Skaftö GK with 18 holes and nearby 9 holes pay and play just close by Grundsund.
